FILM FESTIVAL TAKES A PLACE UNDER THE STARS IN ARENA PULA

ISTRIADUCTION  In July| Working time: All day| Pay per Entrance Pula Film Festival is the oldest film festival in Croatia and one of the oldest film festivals in Europe. Its trademark is the Arena, where the film screenings take place under the stars. Today it is the most visited cultural event in the Republic of Croatia, with over 73,000 visitors attending the great number of festival events. The festival program takes place at different city locations, attracting a large number of visitors. The competition program includes Croatian films, both feature and short films, usually premieres at the festival, as well as international program, children’s program, youth program, retrospective program and Pula Cinematheque. The accompanying sidebar program consists of programs for film professionals, film workshops, different exhibitions dedicated to cinematography and concerts. PURE NATURE IN THE CITY OF PULA – PARK FOREST ŠIJANA

Surely you won’t regret it. Only two kilometers from the very center of the city you will find heaven for your body and soul. The narrow winding labyrinth-like paths at every curve reveal surprises, a small animal or a beautiful specimen of forest flora. Through the tall tree tops the sunrays shyly protruding just to enable you to see where a certain path leads. It is equally nice here in spring when the soil is covered with fragrant carpets of cyclamen and in autumn when under the fallen leaves you can discern caps of many species of mushrooms. ARENA PULA – THE ROMAN AMPHITHEATER

We went to see what the stone and architecture of ancient Roman buildings were talking about. At the entrance, we noticed that we need to pay for the entrance. We had to see the elliptical dimension, the longer axis measuring about 130 m and the shorter one about 100 m. The place where the gladiators fought and where the stands were filled with 20 000 people. After several photographs of the amphitheater of his giant windows, we went to the subterranean tunnels where an exhibition of Roman objects and the way of processing of wine and olive were exhibited. TAVERN TAJ IN THE CITY OF PULA

ISTRIADUCTION  All Year | Working time: 11-01h | Free Entrance Located in the suburbs of Pula tavern „Taj“ offers a warm domestic ambient on a nice location, not far from the city center. The inside has a traditional Istrian stone architecture of an old house with a fireplace in the middle. We sat on the terrace which provides lots of shade to catch some summer breeze. They serve great prosciutto, Istrian cheese and fabulous olive oil as an appetizer. This time as the main course we wanted something different so we ordered a traditional Istrian meal called „maneštra“ a vegetable stew made with spring corn. And it was delicious. Except that „Taj“ has a verity of fish dishes and great squid, locally called „calamari“. Staff is really friendly and the ambient is warm and nice. SPECTACVLA ANTIQVA GLADIATORS IN ARENA PULA

ISTRIADUCTION June - September | Working time: 20h | Pay per entrance Spectacvla Antiqva is the name of the project that takes place in Pula’s amphitheater once a week. In the evening hours, we have been in the Arena to see gladiator fights. We had a privilege to see ancient Roman soldiers,  citizens, clothing, and hairstyles. First, we made a couple of photos of the old Roman soldier at the entrance of Arena then we proceed to the stone seat :).  In the beginning, the narrator explains everything about the program and gladiators on English and it is easy to catch all the facts. After showing old Roman customs, habits, for example, selling women, the show continues with gladiators. The gladiators were usually criminals, war prisoners and slaves trained for fights and we have enjoyed gladiator fights with real weapons. At the end of the fight, the crowd can decide if the gladiator is going to be killed or get mercy. The last decision is on the emperor and he will decide the end of the fight with thumbs up or down. The last shouts will be of Mitte! (Let him go!) or Iugula! (Kill him!) it was fun. It was very interesting after the show because

RAILWAY STATION – PULA

ISTRIADUCTION  All Year | Working time: as per schedule | Ticket Railway station Pula build in 1876 was under the authority of Austria, Italy and Slovenia until 1991. when they are under the Croatia Railway. It was connected with local shipyard Uljanik in 1878., 1,3 km of railway. The traffic was significantly increase and in 1884. it was transported over 34t of cargo. Railway was very good connected with Trieste and Vienna. There was also a „green train“ to Slovenia. In 1904. Pula Railway Station was connected with city center with tram. TRUE CONSTRUCTION MIRACLE PULA’S MARKETPLACE

It was built with new materials, iron and glass. Its original function has been retained. Following the erection of the Pula Arsenal in the mid 19th century, a fast and numerous construction of various structures began. The Pula market was erected at the time, a true construction miracle and one of the most beautiful examples of the Secession. Located in the centre of Pula, the erection of the indoor part of the market began in 1902. It was officially opened on 18 October 1903. Modern materials such as iron and glass were used for the first time in the construction of the Pula market. The walls of this unique Secession structure consist of almost exclusively semi-circular constructive iron bearers manufactured in the Witkovice Ironworks, and glass surfaces, naturally. The ground- and first floor premises were spacious and functional. The fishmonger's was on one side of its ground floor, while the ice-storage was placed on the other.
