DRAGUĆ – PITORESQUE JEWELL OF CENTRAL ISTRIA

ISTRIADUCTION All Year| No Working time| Free Entrance Behind seven hills, in the deepest inland of Istra, half way between Pazin and Buzet suddenly emerges - Draguć. Situated in the middle of nowhere, squeezed on the ridge of a hill, it simply allures you with its harmonious ancient perspective. Draguć as we know it today was formed around the homonymous medieval castle, which is nowadays almost completely incorporated in the architectural structure of the later periods. Mentioned in 1102 as deed of conveyance by the Istrian Margrave Ulrich to the Aquileia Patriarchs, later as part of the future Pazin County it belonged to the Counts of Gorica and finally to the Habsburgs. The town was attacked while the settlement surrounding the Castle was burnt and destroyed by both Ottomans and Venetians, and when it eventually came under the reign of Venice, – Uskoks and Austrians did the same. What wars had begun the plague continued on more occasions and in 1855 cholera put the end to it having decimated the population. That the town survived is a pure miracle just as it is the fact that so much has been preserved up to the present

SWEET MEMORIES –TRADITIONAL GRANDMA RAVIOLI

ISTRIADUCTION Saturday morning jumped out of bed and put on my clothes. Got in my car and raced like I’m driving Formula 1, all the way to Grandma House. Knocked on the door with smile on my face looking at the Grandma place, Paz - Cerovlje. (Remix version of Magic – Rude) Hello, sweet child of mine, come on in and let’s make Ravioli with cheese. I’m going to show you how Grandma does it. Before we start wash your hands, put an apron and let’s get ready to rumble! It is Grandma home so you should know before we start there is going to be a plenty of Ravioli at the end, nobody is going home hungry. First we need to make Ravioli dough. Place flour mixture on a board (1kg.), making a well in the center of the flour. Beat the eggs (2 eggs) slightly and drop it into the flour well. Combine the eggs and flour together, adding enough water to make dough. Water should be lukewarm (not too cold and not too warm).Knead dough well, until it gets smooth. Cover the dough, so that cannot run away and start grinding cheese. Work
